Asianet is an Indian Malayalam language general entertainment pay television channel. It is owned by Disney Star, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company in India. The channel is operated by Asianet Star Communications, which is headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram. Asianet is a popular destination for families and children who love to watch movies and cartoons.
Dr Raji Menon promoted Asianet during the mid-nineties. In late 2006, he withdrew from the company partially and handed control to Jupiter Entertainment Ventures. In November 2008, Star India acquired a 51% stake in Asianet through a joint venture with JEV. In 2014, the company was sold to the Raheja Group.
Asianet is the largest Malayalam general entertainment pay television channel in India. The channel broadcasts movies, telenovelas, and drama series. Star India was previously owned by 21st Century Fox, but became a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company in March 2019. It is currently owned by Disney Star. Asianet Plus telecasts old Asianet serials and movies. In July 2012, Asianet launched its own movie channel, Asianet Movies.
Asianet also hosts film awards every year. These awards honor outstanding work in the Malayalam language film industry. The company also has a television news channel, R Bharat.
